![]() ![]() ![]() It was nice that the game allowed me to return after the credits and story wise I still think it makes sense for Batman to tie up the loose ends. So I finished the main quest and put the game down but after a week I felt the need to return and do the side quests. As I was playing the main quest I found no motivation to stop and do silly riddles while Batman/Gotham was on the verge of death/collapse, it just didn't make any sense to me. My big gripe with the game is that the story isn't written in a way to encourage exploration since Batman is always on a literal timer in the story (not mechanically but narratively). The mechanics are there though, this is just my experience of the level design. Compared to Asylum, City's dungeons are more focused on complex ways of traversal with gadgets and then rooms with brawls, than the methodical hunting Batman does in Asylum. The open world also doesn't feel designed with stealth in mind but this is also somewhat true for the dungeons. But I think Asylums level design was better at encouraging stealth while City favored brawls a bit more. It feels just as great as in Asylum to quickly jump down, take someone out and then disappear leaving the rest scared. I also love the fact that the stealth gameplay isn't slow. Otherwise, the combat is extremely fluid and responsive. Then he needs 5 seconds where he can't interrupt what he's doing. It's like Batman has the reflexes of a bat except when he's in the middle of finishing someone off. The only thing that annoyed me was not being able to cancel takeout animations if someone is attacking me. When it comes to combat it's basically an improved version of the one in Asylum, which is great. ![]() In Arkham City, you spend the majority in the open world (at least if you do the side quests). Sure the hub had some collectibles, secrets and fights, but you spent the absolute majority of the time in the different interior levels. This is the main difference in design compared to Asylum, which was more of a metriodvania where the exteriors functioned as a hub. The world isn't very big but it basically functions as an open world with side quests and collectibles while the main quest sends Batman around the map to explore the interior "dungeons". Arkham City is a gated-off part of Gotham that was made into a maximum security prison (basically like Manhattan in Escape from New York). It takes the same gameplay and applies it to a new story set in a more open setting. Arkham City Overall a fantastic sequel to Arkham Asylum. Overall a fantastic sequel to Arkham Asylum. To me it is between this, battlefield 3 (the MP is sooooo solid), The Witcher 2 and Skyrim. I can't find any fault with this game other than the DX11 problem, and that will be fixed, so a solid 10/10 and this game leaves me wondering what will be GOTY. But most all of the voice acting done here is awesome. The sound is awesome, including the voice acting, The Joker is especially, like last game, really good. The graphics are gorgeous beyond belief, even in DX9 it looks good, I can also run at almost max with max PhysX on my GTX460, only thing I have turned down is AA at 16x. I have had no troubles whatsoever, and the troubles I did have came from me not being used to the combat system, not because it was bad. As stated earlier this games combat is awesome, and works even better on mouse and keyboard than its predecessor. Until that patch there are lots of goodies to play meanwhile, like Skyrim and Battlefield 3. So, if your that angered by it, wait before you buy it, or if you already bought it, don't play until the patch is out. The DX11 thing is something that they already are aware of, and they will fix it. Can't do much about GFWL and SecuRom, they don't make the game worse, they are just bad choiced to safeguard against people playing without paying. Still the story keeps me intrigued, the combat is insanely good, and the atmosphere is amazing. However, none of that really matters, a month later? Who fricking cares, yes I had some of it spoiled, but I should have kept away from the batman forums to be sure. Yes the game was a month late, yes DX11 features will slow down your game, when it should, in fact, speed it up, yes there is SecuRom, and yes its on GWFL. Yes the game was a month late, yes DX11 features will slow I can't believe people voting this a 0, but I guess there are haters everywhere.
